Growth in Awareness of Soft Skills in the Real World

In recent years, there has been a growing awareness in the corporate world of the importance of soft skills, such as emotional intelligence, communication, and teamwork. This shift in emphasis is a positive development, as it recognizes that success in the business world is not solely determined by technical expertise and hard skills, but also by one’s ability to effectively interact with and lead others.

As Noam Chomsky, an American Intellectual, Linguist and a Philosopher has noted, “It is not enough to have a good mind. The main thing is to use it well.” The same can be said for soft skills. Technical proficiency alone is not enough to succeed in the corporate world; one must also possess the ability to communicate effectively, empathize with others, and work collaboratively.

One example of the growing emphasis on soft skills can be seen in the field of management. Many companies are now placing a greater emphasis on emotional intelligence and effective communication in their management training programs, especially after the pandemic. This is because managers who possess these skills are better able to lead and motivate their teams, leading to increased productivity and job satisfaction.

Another example can be seen in the field of hiring and recruitment. Many companies are now placing a greater emphasis on soft skills when evaluating job candidates. This is because they recognize that while technical expertise is important, it is not the only factor in determining a candidate’s potential success on the job.

As the business world continues to evolve and become more complex, the importance of soft skills will only continue to grow. As Peter Drucker, management consultant, educator, and author, has said, “The most important thing in communication is hearing what isn’t said.” It is crucial for individuals and organizations to recognize the value of soft skills and to make a concerted effort to develop and improve upon them.

As the business world continues to evolve, it is crucial for individuals and organizations to recognize the importance of these skills and to make a conscious effort to develop them.
